Couple these high costs with the consumer experience of having to navigate the health care maze (is this service "covered"?, why do I have to try THAT drug before I can use THIS one?, I was told this provider is in the network!), and it's easy to see why so many consumers (and employers) are beyond frustrated. No one ever calls us to say "hey, I just wanted to let you guys know that my doctor's office collected the right copay, and my bill was covered as I expected"!

In short, we go to work every day in an industry that isn't well understood or liked by most.
